What is sugarcane bagasse, and why is it used for a diary cover?
Sugarcane bagasse is the dry fibrous material left behind after sugarcane stalks are crushed for juice. It is one of farming's most abundant by-products — generated in vast quantities every harvest season and typically burned in the field or discarded. Pressed and dried, it becomes a firm, naturally textured cover board with a warmth and character that no wood-pulp or synthetic material replicates.
The surface has a subtle grain from the original cane fibres. No two covers are quite identical. The pages are made from a wheat straw blend. Wheat straw is the stalks left behind after grain harvesting — another crop residue that is routinely burned after the season ends. Processed into paper, it produces a smooth, pen-friendly writing surface without consuming a single tree.
Why does this matter for a diary?
Most diaries — even those marketed as premium — are built from virgin wood pulp, with no visibility into what was displaced to produce them. This diary draws on what farming already generates as waste. Both the cover and the pages have a traceable agricultural origin. No new pressure on forests. No virgin raw material. A product whose story you can follow from the field to the page.
How is it best used?
The diary is undated, which means there is no fixed start date and no wasted pages from a missed month. Use it as a personal diary, a journaling diary, a daily planner, a gratitude diary, a manifestation diary, a habit tracker, or an expense tracker. It works equally well as an office diary, an executive diary for structured professional use, a study planner for students, and a travel diary for those who write on the move. A5 format. Plant-based binding. No plastic coating on the cover.
